MP Tim Farron is the latest member of the House of Commons to state their support for Pigeon Racing to be given 'sport' status.
The Cumbrian MP has written to the Chancellor Alistair Darling urging him to reconsider the recent change in tax rules.
He added;
'Pigeon racing has been a sport for over 200 years and this decision by the Treasury shows a complete disdain for this heritage. In addition, it is completely unfair that pigeon fanciers are treated in this manner when many pastimes retain their rebate.'
Other MPs that showing their support have been; Michael Gove MP for Surrey Heath, Richard Ottaway MP for Croydon South and Hazel Blears MP for Salford.
Fanciers have organised a petition which currently has more than 350 signatures. Sign it here: Petition to officially recognise pigeon racing as a sport
