The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Northern Ireland (DARDNI) has decided to impose a precautionary ban on the movement of birds from Great Britain to attend bird gatherings and pigeon races in Northern Ireland.

All existing general licences currently relating to the importation of poultry, poultry products including meat and table eggs and captive birds are hereby revoked.

New specific, multiple and general licensing arrangements are in place effective from Monday 5th February. Application forms for specific and multiple licences are available.

There is no requirement to complete an application form to obtain a general licence - importers wishing to obtain a general licence should contact DARD Trade Section:

Jersey has imposed a ban on all live birds from GB until further notice.
