Sunday the 7th of May, saw the 3rd successful young bird sale, in aid of our funds, take place in the Croft suite at the loanhead miners’ welfare Loanhead Midlothian.
Some 50 plus young pigeons from some of the best Scottish Long distance racing pigeon lofts were viewed by over 80 interested fanciers, extra to the sale list were birds from Mrs Jessie kier Thornton Fife, Gordon Campbell Montrose and J Wishart Kirckcaldy. Donations were received from several fanciers who did not have young pigeons available.
Our telephone bid line was again in evidence with a number of pigeons going down south. Highest price bid was £210.00 with an average of over £50.00 being achieved by our auctioneer Jim O,Hara. Once again a great effort from our officials and members of the committee who arranged the venue, equipment and other support, thanks must also go to the people who purchased birds, the SNRPC thank them for a generous financial effort and wish them every success with their purchases.
It is proposed to hold a late bred sale on the 3rd of September 2006 this is a Sunday and will take place in the same venue and in the evening 6pm for 7pm. Fanciers will be donating late bred young birds from their seasons winners in 2006 this is an opportunity to purchase some of the very best current winning Scottish long distance blood lines of racing pigeons, a sale list will appear nearer the time
The photographs are by kind permission of Norman Dixon who was present at the sale, many thanks.
A SNRPC committee meeting was held on Wednesday evening the 17th of May and the following information will update our members as to the current situation.
Members should now have their Year Book, race sheets and race information for the season 2006, please note that only paid up members have received this information.
I would confirm due to an omission in my last notes that there is a marking station in Dundee for all races.
Racing and DEFRA
It has been confirmed that France, have lifted their ban on pigeon racing. DEFRA are meeting during this week to discuss if restrictions on entry of banned birds to France or from France will be lifted, confirmation of their decision is eagerly awaited.
In the event that the bann is lifted, the SNRPC will endevour to revert to our original AGM race programme. Depending on a positive decision and the permitted dates of entry to France the SNRPC committee will meet quickly to discuss the situation and review any changes that may need to be made in, dates, transportation, or Race points. This will be done promptly and in the member’s interests to achieve channel racing for 2006.
Our first race the inland National from Newbury is only 2 weeks away, on the 3rd of June. Marking takes place at the various marking stations on Thursday the 1st of June and are fully detailed in your information pack. We have all suffered due to the bird flu restrictions. Some more than others and now the weather is adding to our misery, I am sure however knowing the tenacity of the Scottish fancier and his birds that these problems sent to trouble us will be overcome.
I remind members of the current race programme. 23rd June Hastings, 1st July Portsmouth 1, 14th July Portsmouth 2 and 8th September the Leicester young bird Open.
Our opriginal Agreed AGM programme is Newbury 3rd of June, Reims the 23rd of June, St Naizer 1st July, Picaville 14th July and Leicester the 8th of September. And of course our extreme distance race. I would advise members to keep in close touch with the committee of the SNRPC as changes are now bound to occur in our race programmes.
