This lunchtime (6 Apr) it was confirmed by the RSPB and the NFU that the swan found dead at Cellardyke, Fife on the 30th March died from H5N1 Avian Flu.

A 3km protection zone has been set up which will prevent poultry being moved in the area. A wider six-mile (10km) surveillance zone has also been set up.

Keepers of birds in the protection zone are being instructed to isolate their birds from wild birds, by taking them indoors where ever possible.
