The SNRPCs First AGM...
Author: Ian M BrownTitle: The SNRPCs First AGM
Date: 2006-03-16 20:01:46Uploaded by: webmaster
Just a little over one year ago the SNRPC became the first major change in a century of Scottish National Pigeon Racing. The formation of this new Scottish national racing Pigeon Club has allowed fanciers of any single affiliation with lofts situated in Scotland to race their birds in a national race programme. At the height of the race season 2005, some 400 Scottish fanciers, fully paid up members, supported a programme of 5 successful races. One inland race, three channel races and one young bird National. Now with the first AGM concluded the members look forward to the second year of this brave new club, despite the threat of no channel racing and the probability of stringent controls on UK racing and training of our pigeons. The following report highlights the determination, despite our recreations plight of the SNRPC to plan ahead in the event that DEFRA may curtail our activities in 2006.

On Saturday the 4th of March 2006 nearly 100 members attended the first AGM of the Scottish national Racing Pigeon Club.
The President George Wilson opened the meeting at 12 noon prompt, welcoming all members who attended from the various areas in Scotland, he also thanked all the committee and members for their support during the year and for their concern and patience during his earlier short period of illness which he was glad to say was in the past Before continuing with the agenda he asked those present to observe a minutes silence for fanciers who had passed on.

Item one on the Agenda was the Inaugural minutes of the 27th February 2005, these had been attached to the Agenda along with the balance sheet sent out to the members intimating the date of our AGM.
These were passed and with nothing arising from minutes the president moved on to the convoyers report which was also accepted, our race controller John Alston has asked me to mention his very able assistants who have been an important part of his liberation decisions during 2005. These were Roy Seaton of Annan and Barney Kenny of Loanhead Midlothian.

The next item on the agenda was the balance sheet this showed a very healthy bank balance. The secretary explained that in reality it was not a balance sheet but a statement of accounts, the SNRPC at this present time having no major tangible assets to record in its first year’s business, these were passed.

Election of officials for 2006 the president vacated the chair and our Senior vice president Frank Baillie on taking the chair asked the meeting to accord a vote of thanks to the president for his very able and calming influence on all our meetings. The Vice president, asked the meeting for nominations, confirming that the retiring president George Wilson was prepared to stand for re-election, with no other nominations from the meeting, George Wilson was elected as our president for a second term to a great round of applause. The president thanked the members for their vote of confidence and assured them he would carry out his chairmanship with continued enthusiasm and pride.

Calling on nominations for Senior Vice president he confirmed that our present senior vice president Frank Baillie had agreed to be nominated was an excellent vice president in every way possible during 2005 with no other nominations from the meeting Frank Baillie was re- elected. Alex Howe our Junior Vice President was also re-elected. The final but with out any doubt a very important post, was for the secretary and John Baillie, who had been what one can only describe as a man with a mission was re-elected with the full support of all members. John is still on a mission and we all hope that his enthusiasm and capacity for work will not abate and I would at this point mention Johns Family who have given him great support during 2005 and especially his wife Dympna whom I had the pleasure to meet at the presentation.

The President then spoke of the committee saying that all to a person had been 100% plus behind him and the officials during the committee meetings, the markings the racing and the presentation. He also thanked the many other people who though not on the committee and been of great support at the marking stations, the convoyers and the fanciers who had flown their pigeons in the races. At this point Kerr Stainthorpe of Lesmahagow proposed that the committee be elected en-Block expressing that all had been instrumental in the success of 2005. The president asked all committee members who were present if they accepted re-election and for the few whom for various reasons could not be present he informed the meeting that they had intimated to him earlier they were all prepared to stand again. The meeting agreed to re-elect the committee en-block with one exception, of Davy Gullane, Davy sadly, would not be seeking re-election due to family commitments.
The final election was for the appeals committee and with no other nominations they were re- elected.
With the Officials the committee and the Appeals committee being given another year in office by the members this continuity will help strengthen the SNRPC, firmly and decidedly ensuring and establishing this new long distance national racing pigeon club for all Scottish fanciers.

The President moved on to the Resolutions by the management committee the meeting confirming that the AGM will be on the second Saturday in February 2007 and each year there after and all motions must be in the hands of the Secretary by the 30th of November 2006 and on the same date in each proceeding year.

Constitution and rules, pools a short discussion took place and the outcome was the recommendations by the committee being accepted.

Awards and prizes were also accepted with the members wishing the committee be left to finalise the changes as they saw fit.

Racing rules were also agreed as per the committees recommendations.

Subscriptions were to remain at £20.00 and were due by the 1st of April 2006

Birdage would be at the committees discretion according to our costs. As with prize money.

Extreme Distance Race
Racing for 2006 was going to be difficult but the meeting was in full agreement that the Extreme distance race be incorporated into the SNRPCs official race programme. This has been very well received by all members as has the yearling derby now incorporated in our final channel race.

To remind everyone the following is now the proposed 2006 programme

Inland National Newbury Saturday the 3rd of June 2006
The Premier Gold Medal Race from Reims Friday the 23rd June 2006
The new Extreme distance race from Bergerac at the end of June 2006
Our long distance race from St Nazaire with the Cumbria region Saturday the 1st of July
Picaville with the Cumbria region incorporating a yearling Derby on Saturday the 15th of July
Last but not least the young bird open from Leicester on Saturday 9th September

It was accepted by the meeting that the committee be given the mandate to arrange any necessary changes required in facilitating racing in the event of restrictions being placed on the transportation of pigeons, for racing and training.

At this precise moment no racing is allowed from France, Belgium is doubt full and at present in the UK, we are allowed to race under certain controls including Guernsey, which the SNRPC has managed to secure for our Premier Gold medal race this situation could change at any time.

The president at this point asked the members if they had any questions they wished to raise. A number of pertinent questions were raised and it will be the committees remit to look into these.

Stuart Young of Bonnyrigg wished that the minutes record Ken Buchannans major inpute to nearly all of the printing for the SNRPC during 2005 and for the presentation Function in 2006.

The president closed the meeting thanking the members for their conduct helping to make this first AGM so successful drawing attention to all the committee member’s support in so many ways including not claiming any expenses for all meetings that had been called. I am sure it is recognised by all members that the SNRPC has moved forward to its present position through the massive good will that exists within the club and it is this good will that must be carried forward into the future and beyond, which brings me to a saying that I have heard so many times from the various meetings I have been present at over the last 40 years “quote (I am proud to be able to serve this club) unquote” It sometimes was possibly said with reserve and great concern but I am sure that the SNRPC has managed to restore that quote to what it used to mean and I think I speak for all in the committee of the SNRPC that we are proud to be part of this new Scottish National Racing Pigeon Club.

The committee will be meeting on the 23rd of March to carry forward its mandate from the members. Any one wishing to contact the secretary the dedicated phone number is 0131 440086

Thursday the 9th of March 2006 at 2pm. Notification has just been received from the RPRA that no racing of pigeons will be allowed from Guernsey only the coastal areas of the UK are available for longer racing at the moment and that remains very tenuous.
