The Scottish National racing Pigeon Club Race Programme for 2006

The SNRPC supports an extreme distance race for 2006 and a yearling race from Picaville France.
The SNRPCs members meeting for the ratification of our race programme held on Sunday the 27th of November 2005 attracted very nearly 100 enthusiastic Scottish long distance Fanciers. This very well supported meeting took just on 1 hour to take the following decisions.

The president in opening the meeting explained the reasons for the committees recommendations, as financial, transport availability, the ever present geography of national racing and the need to try and encourage members from all parts of Scotland to participate in National racing.

The meeting wishing each of the proposed race points to be discussed individually was carried out. With members in general finally agreeing the basic programme presented for 2006. It is of interest that the feeling running through the whole meeting encouraged the expansion of National racing by supporting the committee’s suggestions in passing the programme in its entirety. The following is the SNRPCs 2006 National race programme. Our Inland National will be flown from Newbury on Saturday the 3rd of June. Race marking will be on Thursday the 1st of June. The Gold Medal Race will be Flown on Friday the 23rd of June From Reims France 2 days after the longest day. Race marking will be on Wednesday the 21st of June. Both of these races we will be transporting ourselves. On Saturday the 1st of July we will be flying from St Nazaire in the west of France it is worth noting that St Nazaire though on the Atlantic coast of France is only some 30 miles to the west of Nantes and on the same latitude We will be transported with the Cumbria region and marking will be on Wednesday the 27th of June. The Picaville race which will be raced on the 15th of July will incorporate a yearling race and that a silver Medal for the 1st Yearling will be presented. Picaville is situated on the Cherbourg Peninsula in France and is under 500 miles to central Scotland so is a first class opportunity for fanciers who wish to try their yearlings at the distance and over the channel this race is to be flown with the Cumbria region Marking will be on Wednesday the 12th July. The final part of the old bird programme was the proposal that the SNRPC extend its long distance racing to incorporate members who wished to fly the extreme distance. The president intimated that the SNRPC whilst not running this race would support it with the logistics of marking, transporting and PRO, providing, it was financed in its entirety by the members sending entries. John Ellis of Wellbank Dundee donated £100.00 and Jim Hamilton of Kennoway Fife also Donated £100.00. I am sure that others will soon come forward and add their support to these gentlemen’s generous donations. A silver medal will be struck for this new venture and presented to the winner. The Future of flying in the continental international racing scene can now draw nearer, it is a brave and commendable move to be part of international racing, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Scottish fancy and their birds will prove a force to be reckoned with. Dates, race points and flying partners to be announced but will probably be sometime in July. This is an opportunity for any Scottish fancier who has dreamed of flying the extreme distance to enter. With out mentioning any names we already have a number of fanciers in every section who have the pigeons capable of such a feat in fact some have already achieved recognition at these extreme distances. Finally our young bird National will again be flown from Leicester on Saturday the 9th of September. The race marking will take place on the Friday the 8th of September.

This was a very good meeting and the committee sincerely hope that this co-operation and understanding of where we are coming from and where we are going to will bring a change for the future of racing pigeons especially when our recreation has been in freefall for many years.

Congratulations to Mr& Mrs Chris Little of Eastriggs Annan who have won an award through the Cumbria region of the RPRA. These very good fanciers won 1st Open Cholet with the only Bird into Scotland on the day and also the extreme long distance award for Alencon and Cholet. Both with the Scottish National Racing Pigeon Club And talking to Wilf Flockart from Tranent at the meeting on Sunday he informs me that his brother who has lived in California for the past 20 years is coming back home to Scotland. The Result is that he and Wilf are to fly as W&G Flockart from next year I know that everyone who knows Wilf will wish them both the very best for the future and you can be assured that they will be one of the first SNRPC fanciers to enter the extreme distance race next year I will watch with great interest to see their final result.

I look forward to hearing from any Scottish fancier or any fancier in the UK or abroad who is interested in extreme National and international long distance pigeon racing or any long distance national racing.
