Mr & Mrs Guenther of Dumfries
Mr & Mrs Guenther – 4th Open Falaise Karl and his wife Liz are the winners of 1st section A 1st south section 4th open with a velocity of 1068. They timed in a 3 year old blue cock sent sitting 5 days on eggs with his 2nd flight just burst on his arrival home. He is a medium size cock and handles like a ball and also has a nice pearl type of eye. Karl says he is a good racing pigeons and has won his fair share of prizes (29) over the 2 years flown on widowhood. As a young bird he was raced out to 200 miles winning 5th club 7th section from Seldom Gate. Then as a yearling he won 3rd club 3rd sectionAppleby, 3rd club 9th section Seldom Gate, 2nd club 3rd section Ripon, 3rd club 5th section Wakefield and 1st club 2nd section Newark. As a 2 year old he won 7th club 9th section Appleby, 3rd club 7th section Ripon, 3rd club 5th section Newark, 1st club 1st section Huntingdon and then 9th club Leicester. This year he has won 10th club Ripon, 5th club 9th section Wakefield, 7th club Wakefield, 9th club 10th section Huntingdon, 3rd club 4th section Maidstone 313 miles. He was then given 2 weeks rest just his normal fly round the loft hen then received a training flight from Penrith a distance of 50 miles and then 2 from Carlisle a distance of 30 miles. This was given to him when he was repaired to his hen and he was sent to the national Falaise race sitting 5 days on eggs. His breeding is from Karl and Liz own family of Thorsten Daum from Germany. Sire of the section winner is a direct son of Thorsten Golden Couple. While the dam is again Thorsten Daum stock being from Jos Thone bloodlines Karl and Liz won the SHU Dewar trophy in 1999 with a pigeon who won 3 times in the first 100 open in 3 national races I have to stress not related to the present family of pigeons. My thanks to Andy Miller of Edinburgh who is a very good friend of Karl and gave me their phone number. My thanks to Karl for supplying me with the details of their winner of 4th open and may I again congratulate them on winning the section. Last but not least my grateful thanks to David Smith who supplied me with the photo’s of the three fanciers who take prominent positions in this race.

Terry Richardson
Terry Richardson Second section A 2nd south section 5th open is Terry Richardson of Gasstown who timed in a 2 year old chequer pied hen at 19.37 flying a distance of 456 miles to record a velocity of 1060. As a youngster she had 2 races to Feldon Gate and then as a yearling was only lightly raced to Ripon. This year she had the first 2 races and was stopped as Terry was on holidayfor 3 weeks, she then had Leicester Huntingdon were she won 4th club and then into Maidstone. She was then rested for a week and then given 6 x 45 mile tosses up to the Sunday before basketing for Falaise. She is from new stock Terry is trying from Belgium which is Batenburg and if this is the first of them to show then we will look forward to hearing more from Terry in the years to come, thank you for sending in the details and congratulations on your 5th open win.

Mr & Mrs G & J Power
Mr & Mrs G J Power Third section A 3rd south section 10th open are the husband and wife partnership from Gretna, they timed in a 2 year old blue bard cock at 19.56 hours on the day flying a distance of 444 yards to record a velocity of 1007. As a youngster the blue cock had 5 races and won some minor club positions. Then as a yearling he had 4 races on roundabout again winning minor positions and he was stopped after Huntingdon a distance of 217 miles. This year he won 3rd club from the Ripon race flown on the 6th of May, then on the training flight 5 days later the team were attacked by a hawk and they returned in 1’s and 2’s all day. The blue cock returned 4 hours later with only 3 tail feathers intact and had to be rested until they grew back in again. He was then entered for the comeback race from Wakefield 113 miles on the 10th of June and then the following week was entered for Maidstone a distance of 297 miles and he took 9 ½ hours to home. He was then given 6 training flights from a distance of 15 miles right up to the day of basketing for the Falaise race. He was entered with his 3rd flight ½ way up and was sitting 10 to 12 days on eggs his first since the start of the year as he had gone to the comeback and Maidstone races on roundabout. Sire is a Van Hee blue cock kept for stock he was purchased at Blackpool show direct from G & M Van Hee sale, dam of the blue stock cock is a direct daughter of the Van Hee cock and in fact she is an Aunt to Derek Nordon’s Danny Boy. Dam of the 10th open winner is a blue hen bred by Ralston Graham of Langholm, her sire was 1st SNFC Reims winner of 2002 when paired to one of Ralston’s stock hens. My thanks to Gus for supplying me with the details of their winner and my congratulations on another very good performance.
Eskvalley Jacky

Ralston Graham timed in Eskvalley Jacky at 21.03 hours on the day and this will win her a Gold Award in the SNFC. Eskvalley Jacky has won 34th open Hastings, 139th open Claremont, 12th open Reims, 10th open Falaise, 2nd open Alencon and now 26th open Falaise. What a pigeon and our congratulations go to Ralston who like the Kinnear’s has proved that when given a top class pigeon they can bring the best out of them. Great fanciers and more importantly GREAT PIGEONS we in the SNFC are fortunate to have such high quality fanciers and pigeons within our club. I have worked out a co efficient on Jacky’s performances which is as follows:
Racepoint Position Won Birdage Co Efficient Total
Hastings32nd open19151.671.67
Claremont139th open32574.265.93
Le Ferte Bernard12th open25380.476.4
Falaise10th open30250.336.73
Alencon2nd open22450.086.81
Falaise26th open23661.097.9
As one can see quite a remarkable achievement when you consider that she is under 8% from a total entry of 15,346 pigeons in 6 national races. Outstanding and we Scottish fanciers must realise that we DO HAVE pigeons that will compete against the very best in Europe. Well done to Ralston and may we wish him well in breeding from his champion Eskvalley Jacky now that she is retired to the stock loft.

George Rankin & Son Gareth of Larkhall

G Rankin & Son 29th & 46th Open

First and second section E 1st & 2nd west section 29th & 46th open are the father and son partnership of George Rankin & son Gareth of Larkhall. This is the 6th time they have won the west section in the SNFC which I think is a record so our congratulations go to them not only on winning the section again but for their first two places in this Falaise race. Their first pigeon was a 2 year old blue hen now named Westbound Sunrise as she was timed in at 05.14am second morning. As a yearling she laid normal and had 4 pairs of eggs and after Falaise 2 she laid again however this year she has not laid any eggs and George has treated her as a barren hen this year and he has slip her a pot egg when she becomes eggy. She was then sitting on her 3rd round of pot eggs sitting 14 day eggs and 2 days prior to basketing she was given her first youngster of the year. George slipped a one day old young bird at 8pm and the next morning George took the young bird away and changed it with the nest mate as she did not have a lot of soft food at this time. She was as keen as mustard on this youngster as last year when winning from Falaise 2 she was sent in this condition to win 31st section E and 272nd open SNFC with a velocity of 1112. This year she had 4 races from Ripon, Wakefield, Newbury with the SNFC and then on to Maidstone on the 18th June. Training was in the form of her flying 80 minutes to 90 minutes with the young birds for 10 days in the afternoon then on the Sunday afternoon George singled up the team from Elsrickle just outside Newbigging a distance of 12 miles from the loft. Sire is a blue cock 12569 now at stock after having a successful racing career were he was 22 times in the clock out of 35 races winning 12 prizes from 1st to 10th club and he was also winning 23rd west section from SNFC Frome in 2001 velocity 860. His last race was from Tours in 2004 and this year he is now in the Rankin stock loft. His sire was a late bred from Westbound Junior 1st west sect Niort in1996 and Westbound Lady 1st sect 9th open SNFC Nantes in 2000. Dam of 12569 is Grizzle Hen bred from Red Rocket x the Old grizzle hen Lines. 29th Open Falaise Dam of Westbound Sunrise is a blue chequer hen 10380 who was timed in from the young bird national, her nest mate is a Mealy hen 10381 who was clocked first bird in loft from Tours a distance of 611 miles in 2004 and this year she was 2nd bird to loft from Tours winning 10th sect E 56th open Tours 2005. 10380 is a full sister to the dam of Westbound Direct 11 who is second pigeon from Falaise timed at 06.03am to win 2nd section E and 2nd west section. Sire of 10380 is red cock 11583 who was a late bred in 2000 he was not raced as a yearling then in 2002 he won 2nd club 2nd west sect in the federation from Huntingdon. Then later on in the season he won 1st club 5th west section 9th open Lanarkshire federation Lille 456 miles winning the late Peter Scott trophy for the 1st nominated bird in the federation. He is bred from the original Bernard Deweerdt pair bought in Belgium in 1999. Dam of 10380 is Westbound Lady 1st west section 9th open SNFC Nantes in 2000, she was bred from the partners number one blue stock cock 22299 son of Westbound Junior and the Double Section hen. Who in turn was bred from Westbound 1st west section 4th open Niort 1990 and Westsound 1st west section 4th open SNFC Rennes 1984. The dam of Westbound Lady is a blue hen bred by Alan Darragh from Northern Ireland from a daughter of Swallowbrae Lad when paired back to the sire of Swallowbrae Lad. As a mater of interest a yearling hen bred from Westbound Sunrise won 5th west section 20th open duplication race from Leicester with 1.512 birds she also won 1st club 14th west section 32nd open from Lanarkshire federation from Lille a distance of 456 miles with a birdage 1099 this year in 2005. Their second section E second west section is Westbound Direct 11 46th Open Falaise whom you could read more about in my loft report on the partnership earlier in the year or if you want to log onto the SNFC web page and go to articles you will be able to read all about George and Gareth. Westbound Direct 11 was hatched on 20 of July 2002 and was unraced as a late bred then in 2003 he had 4 races to Leicester as a yearling in 2004 he had 5 races to Uttoxter and was then sent to SNFC Falaise being 3rd bird in clock winning 9th LSC prize with a velocity of 619. He was then entered into SNFC Falaise 2 and won 1st LSC 5th Section E 100th open 3,025 birds and recorded a velocity of 1270. His sire is Westbound Direct who won 1st west section 3rd open SNFC Newbury and 11th west section 77th open SNFC Claremont in 2002 (see part 1 for more details on his breeding). Dam of Westbound Direct 11 was a mealy hen 412 (sister to 10380 dam of Westbound Sunrise and the mealy hen 10381 who won 56th open Tours this year see above) she was kept for stock being a direct daughter of Westbound Lady 1st west section 9th open Nantes. She is a daughter of Number one stock cock and the Allan Darragh hen 05495. Sire of mealy 412 is a red chequer cock a full brother to the dam of Westbound Warrior’ being from the Old Deweerdt pair, see above. In 2002 he won 2nd club Huntingdon 2nd west section in Lanarkshire Federation also in 2002 1st club 5th west section 9th open 3rd LSC Lille he also won the late Peter Scott trophy for the first nominated bird in the federation. The full sister to the mealy hen 412 mentioned above was the partners 1st bird in the clock from SNFC Tours in 2004 winning 8th LSC. This year Westbound Direct 11 had 5 races from Ripon, Wakefield, Leicester, and inland SNFC Newbury being 3rd pigeon in the clock. He was then sent to a comeback race from Otterburn on the 25th June before going to the SNFC Falaise race. He was then flown in the morning for 20 minutes and then in the after noon was put out with the young birds flying a further 40 minutes. On the Sunday prior to the Falaise race he had one toss with the Falaise candidates mentioned above. He was sent with his 3rd flight just burst through and was sent sitting 15 days on eggs day of liberation on his 4th round. Again I would like to congratulate George and Gareth on achieving this wonderful result and in becoming record breakers in the SNFC with their 6th west section win.

George Harris
Third section E 3rd west section 57th open is George Harris of Dunipace he timed in his 3 year old chequer cock at 07.00am second morning flying 523 miles and recording a velocity of 876. As a youngster he flew the full federation programme and as a yearling was flown out to the yearling combine race. Then as a 2 year old he was entered in to the 3 bird combine race from Lille a distance of 514 miles which turned out to be a hard race. This year he had 5 races out to Buckingham and was then given training from Newtongrange, Dunbar and Co path with the latter 2 points trained on the Saturday and Sunday before basketing. George said he had read my reports in the paper and noticed how the winners were being trained and he decided to train his team harder for this race and it proved to be a wise decision as he had 10 out of his 12 entries home when I obtained details from him. George has never been shy of purchasing good quality pigeons and his winner is bred down from stock purchased direct from Louella Pigeon World being from their Smith Wildemeersch bloodlines. George comment to me on my reports on the SNFC races this year and he also said that he deemed it an honour to be in the first 100 open positions in any SNFC result. This is his goal every year and he has achieved this again in 2005 well done George and congratulations on your 57th position.

Dave and Callum McDougall of Peterhead
First section G 1st north section 75th open is the father and son partnership of Dave and Callum McDougall of Peterhead who fly a very good pigeon and were 3rd north section Alencon earlier this year. This father and son partnership do not keep a lot of pigeons and only race a handful on widowhood. They broke the team of cocksto their new location in March and are delighted with the season they have had as they started with 9 yearlings and 9 older cocks D & C McDougall 75th Open Falaise of which 6 were considered channel candidates. Dave and Callum won 6th, 9th and 20th north section from the inland SNFC Newbury race. Then they won 3rd north section SNFC Alencon a distance of 633 miles, and now 1st north section SNFC Falaise 602 miles. This is very good flying especially when you consider that the majority of the channel races they compete in are over 600 miles. Dave and Callum timed in a 2 year old chequer cock being from Jan Aarden bloodlines he was bred by their good friend Gordon Sinclair of Aberdeen. He had a bad race from the inland SNFC Newbury race taking 3 days to home and they were a little disappointed in him however they had faith that he was still a ‘good doo’. He repaid their faith in him and as Dave’s wife is called Faith, (She encouraged them to send him to Falaise) so it is appropriate the partners have called him ‘Faiths Boy’. As a young bird he spent a few days out from a training toss he then flew to 125 miles as a baby before being stopped, as most of their young cocks are at this distance. As a yearling he performed both well and consistently, winning club and federation positions from some of the earlier races before going on to be their 3rd pigeon from Newbury S.N.F.C (423 miles). He then won 2nd club 9th federation Hastings (470 miles) winning the yearling trophy being beaten by a loft mate. This year in March he was broken to Dave and Callum’s new location with the rest of the cocks, he then had 3 early races with the club out to 220 miles before being sent to Newbury S.N.F.C 424 miles. From here he spent 3 days out and when recovered he was then sent to Peterborough (350 miles) which was 9 days later with great interest shown from Dave and Callum on how he would perform and he was 3rd bird to the loft. He had initially been earmarked as a potential channel candidate, however after his debacle at Newbury they decided to keep him inland and sent him to Hastings where he was their timer and won 4th club. In the build up to Falaise however he was re-assessed and they decided that he was looking so well that they would include him in their team he was sent with his second flight bursting through on widowhood. Our congratulations to Dave and Cullum on not just winning the north section but on having a fantastic season with a small team of pigeon’s especially at this distance. It proves the old adage that quality is better than quantity, well done to you both.

John Hunter
Second section G 2nd north section and 86th open Falaise is John Hunter of Aberdeen who timed in his 2 year old chequer pied hen at 10.08 am second morning recording a velocity of 816. John Hunter 86th Open Falaise John has named his winner Wee Sylvia she is one of a batch of 12 youngsters he purchased from Louella Pigeon World being from their Wim Van Leeuwen stock when he re started in the sport 2 years ago. As a youngster she had all the federation races and as a yearling was raced out to Huntingdon. This year she had 3 races to Leicester a distance of 312 miles which was on the 28th of May, she was then entered into the inland SNFC Newbury race a distance of 393 miles on the 4th June and was John’s 2nd bird home. These races were all on roundabout and she then received 5 x 50 mile training flights and was sent to Falaise sitting 12 days on eggs. John said she looked as if she had never been out of the loft and he would like to congratulate the SNFC convoyer for the condition on her return, she looked so well that he even noticed that she had some shavings stuck to her ring. Since his return back into the sport John has shown his potential as he has won 1st section G in the last year’s young bird race and then this year he won 1st section G in the Newbury race and now he is 2nd in his 3rd race with the SNFC not a bad record I would say. He used to keep the pigeons 30 years ago when he had Dr Jeff Horn Busschaerts and some Van Den Bourke which did him some good, however like everyone else he had family and business commitments and the pigeons had to go. Once he retired he decided to start up again and although he is in an unfavourable position he has held his own and had some very good success these past few years. He would like to thank John Duthie of Dundee who bred his last years young bird national section winner and his Newbury winner this year not bad going having 2 section winners from the 6 birds obtained.

Irvine Buchan
I Buchan 93rd Open Falaise Third section G 3rd north section 93rd open is Irvine Buchan of Peterhead who timed in a 5 year old mealy cock at 11.24am second morning flying a distance of 598 miles and recording a velocity of 801. This mealy cock has been a consistent performer for Irvine and he won 3rd club from the longest young bird race in 2000. As a 2 year old he won 10th north section from the SNFC Clermont race a distance of 586 miles he was then sent back to the last old bird national of the year and he won 6th north section 85th open SNFC Falaise a distance of 598 miles. Last year he won 3rd north section 92nd open also from SNFC Falaise again nearly 600 miles then this year the mealy cock was flown on round-about for the early part of the season and given 3 club races under 300 miles before being put to the comeback race from Cupar a distance of 90 miles which was 3 weeks before the national race from Falaise, he was then repaired approximately one month before the race and sent sitting a two day old youngster. The sire of the mealy cock was a cock which had been 2nd and 3rd club Hastings a distance of 470 miles in consecutive years, while the dam was a stock hen bred from a cock that topped the federation from Sartilly a distance of 602 miles and a hen that also won prizes in the federation from Sartilly on three separate occasions. Irvine had another great race from Falaise timing two pigeons within 4 minutes from this almost 600 miles race point to win 3rd north section 93rd open and 4th north section 95th open respectively. Incredibly Irvine also timed two birds within four minutes from this race last year winning 5th north section 75th open and 6th north section 85th open. I have known Irvine for a number of years and when a long distance lorry driver used to spend the night in his company along with Jim Wiseman and Anne and Jamie Donaldson. These were great nights and we spoke of nothing else but pigeons and I have happy memories of these nights. My thanks to Callum McDougall for obtaining the details on Irvine’s pigeon for me and also for sending down the photographs, my I also congratulate my old friend Irvine Buchan on another outstanding performance and look forward to meeting up with you during the winter months at the shows or national dinner.
93rd Open Falaise

John Mathieson of Mossblown
J Mathieson 110th Open Falaise Section F winner 110th open with a velocity of 785 is John Mathieson of Mossblown in Ayrshire which is a very hard route to fly pigeons into at any time but I personally think it is harder from France so well done to John. John timed in his 2 year old chequer white flight hen sent sitting 12 days on eggs and she returned with her 2nd flight just thrown. As a youngster she had 5 races out to 100 miles and as a yearling she was raced to Leicester from where she returned with a slight injury so was stopped for the year. This year she has received 5 club races with the last 3 being Leicester Huntingdon and Maidstone from were she was John’s first bird and won 4th club. Her nest mate was John’s time in from the federation Lille race 2 weeks ago where she is probably 2nd federation and should be well up in the west coast combine being timed at 21.40pm on the day. 1st Section F - 110th Open Falaise It is unusual to get birds to fly into this part of Scotland so John is very fortunate to have a pair of nest mates doing so well from France. Sire is a home bred Kirkpatrick cock that’s origin came from Fountainhead Stud being from Britain Olympus that won well from Lerwick into Wales. Dam of John’s section winner is off Kenyon blood from Mr Ishmal of Wigan being down form Jack of Patience bloodlines. When these 2 families have been crossed together they have given John a lot of fun and success none more so than this performance from the SNFC. Our congratulations to John on a very good pigeon as I said earlier he is flying into a very unfavourable position into the far west of Scotland.

Other Facts
After studying the result it is again noticeable that a hen has won the national for the fourth time this year, we have 30 hens in the first 40 in the open. However the 2nd 3rd and 4th places were all won by cocks all had been flown celibate all year Auld Reekie 2nd open and the Mr & Mrs Guenther pigeon 4th open were sent on fresh eggs, while Len Downie’s pigeon was flown on widowhood. There were 6 yearlings timed in the first 40, with 2 x 5 year olds, 3 x 4 year olds, 8 x 3 year olds, 19 x 2 year olds including the winner. There was also a 7 year old hen winning 12th open place for Bob Baldie in Forfar and Henderson & Winterburn of Langholm timed in their 6 year old to win 20th open more about this pigeon later on in this report. The oldest pigeon timed in was a 9 year old red cock to the partnership of E & E Crabb of Monifieth who won 228th open. On studying the result it is interesting to note that not one member only sent 1 pigeon with the lowest entry being 2 birds from certain lofts. There were others who sent big teams and this could be because it is the last race of the season and fanciers are not going to keep all them all throughout the winter so it is make or break time for some of these pigeons. What many people forget is that it is a national race and only the best are good enough, which has been proved again in this race when you see the likes of Honey Potter, Auld Reekie Miss Pringle Eskvalley Jacky plus other outstanding pigeons up on the day and again in the leading groups of winners. To beat pigeons of this quality there is no good sending second best and many of the birds who failed to come home fall into this category I’m not saying them all but some do and the honest fanciers know what I am trying to express.

Other Rising Stars in the SNFC
This year Auld Reekie and Eskvalley Jacky have caught the imagination of the whole fancy not just here in Scotland but all over Great Britain and beyond, however I would now like to highlight some other outstanding pigeons that have been achieving good results but have not been recognised outside their own area, my job as press officer is to treat everyone as equal and to give publicity accordingly. Therefore I would like to highlight these other 9 pigeons that are up and coming stars that all going well will feature in next years national results and I feel that these pigeons deserve a little publicity for their efforts in competing in the SNFC we start off with a pigeon that has won it’s Gold Award with the SNFC in 2005.

John Duthie
Gold Award winner – 'As good as it gets' John Duthie of Dundee won a Gold Award this year with his good cock ‘As good as it Get’s’ he has been an exceptional racing pigeon and not only wins in the SNFC distance races but has won in the club, federation and amalgamation as well. Raced on widowhood as a yearling and has done so every since. He had every race as a yearling winning 4th club 7th Federation Ripon 2. He then won 1st club 4th federation 55th Amalgamation 7958 birds from Leicester. He then won 4th club 6th federation 13th Amalgamation 10,304 birds from Wakefield and then won 5th club Tow Law. He was then sent back to Falaise 2 which is a duplicate race with the federation and SNFC and he won 6th club 11th federation 53rd section C 169th open from an entry of 3,025 birds and recorded a velocity of 1208. This year he has won 3rd club 4th federation Arniston 44 miles velocity 1159. Then 3rd club 8th federation Leicester 279 miles velocity 1806 and finally from the Gold Cup race he is 2nd federation 2nd section C 14th east section 18th open Alencon 2251 birds with a velocity of 934 ypm. A great pigeon and a very worthy winner of the prestigious Gold Award

Charlie Brown
Charlie Brown of Bonnyrigg has an exceptional 4 year old grizzle cock named The Ghost who has won over the channel since a yearling. His performances are as follows: As a yearling he was sent to SNFC Chenoise in 2002 and he won 36th open 25th section B from and entry of 630 birds. Then as a 2 year old he was sent to SNFC Reims race and he won 111th section B 184th open from an entry of 3168 birds.
Ghost

As a 3 year old he was entered in the SNFC Falaise (2) race and he won 274th open from an entry of 3025 birds. This year he was entered into the Gold Cup race from Alencon and he won 28th section B 110th open from and entry of 2245 birds he was then doubled back into SNFC Falaise race and won 30th section B 129th open from an entry of 2366 birds. All going well he will compete for his Gold Award in the SNFC as he did not win a section prize in the race he won 274th open Falaise. His sire is a 96 bred chequer pied cock from Jan Aarden bloodlines purchased from Colin Asher of Rosewell as a squeaker. This 96 cock won 6th open Maidstone Midlothian Fed and also 5th section B 16th open SNFC Rennes he returned the following year from the gold cup race injured just missing the prizes and was then retired to stock. Dam of The Ghost is a grizzle hen purchased from Bertram & MacGregor of Bonnyrigg and she was bred by Donald McFarlane of Airfield Farm near Pathhead. She is from the same grizzle lines that won the Young bird National from Redditch in 1983 for Donald Mc Farlane she was also a grizzle. These birds originate from Mr & Mrs Whitson down from their Gold Award winning grizzle cock of 1980. Charlie Brown is a small back garden loft with no more than 10 pair of old pigeons kept and only 20 youngsters a year are bred. Charlie has kindly promised a late bred from the grizzle cock to the SNFC late bred sale and on behalf of the officials and committee we thank Charlie very much.

Henderson & Winterburn
Henderson & Winterburn This partnership consists of Alistair Henderson and Eddie Winterburn, Alistair has been a member of Langholm pigeon club for a very long time and gained some very prominent positions in the classic races over the years. Eddie originates form Yorkshire and retired to live in the village of Canonbie which is near Langholm. Eddie raced on his own and then joined forces with Alistair and he looks after the partnerships stock pigeons while Alistair looks after the race team as such. They have a 99 bred chequer hen named Miss Pringle that has been an outstanding racing pigeon as her performances will show. Lost at the young bird national she returned in January the following year with her flights very badly fretted she was given 2 races winning 9th club as yearling she was then stopped and allowed to have a good moult. As a 2 year old she flew to the south coast and then as a 3 year old was entered in the SNFC Claremont race returning hawked and still won 3rd club. As a 4 year old she was lightly raced to make sure she had recovered from her hawk injury and then as a 4 year old was raced on Roundabout when Alistair tried the system Miss Pringle was raced out to Cheltenham prior to going to the inland national from Newbury were she won 25th south section 90th open Newbury. She was then sent to the Gold Cup race and she won 18th south section 60th open Le Ferte Bernard then 3 weeks later she was doubled back into the last national race from France and she won 5th south section 22nd open Falaise (2) all in 2004. This year again racing on roundabout Miss Pringle has won 3rd, 6th, 6th and 8th club in club racing and again her last club race was from Cheltenham she was then entered for the inland SNFC race and she won 3rd south section 30th open Newbury. Again doubled back into the Gold Cup race and this time she won 6th south section 23rd open Alencon (one place ahead of Auld Reekie) then again back into Falaise and she won 5th south section 20th open Falaise. Miss Pringle What a pigeon three times at SNFC races this year and not any lower than 30th open, there are not many of these in the pound. Dam of Miss Pringle won 3rd south section 3rd open in the young bird national and then as a 2 year old she won 9th section 12th open SNFC Vire Alistair was telling me that she was killed right outside the loft as she flew into an overhead cable while being driven by her cock. Sire of Miss Pringle is a chequer cock that contains the best of the partner’s traditional lines.

Dale Newcombe
Kardale Gold Star Dale Newcombe of Macmerry needs no introduction as he is a double Gold Award winner in the SNFC. However Dale has a 3 year old mealy cock that has put up some very good performances in the past few years. He is named Kardale Gold Star and has won 38th open Falaise 1 and 82nd open Falaise 2 a distance of 504 miles in season 2004. This year he has won 128th open Alencon a distance of 534 miles and then was doubled back into the last old bird national from Falaise and won 144th open.

Brain Stewart of Falkirk
Big D Brain Stewart of Falkirk has a 5 year old blue pied cock that is named Big D he has been very consistent and won the following positions: As a 2 year old he won 4th Scottish Central Combine Lille 2002, then 38th S C C Claremont in 2003, As a 4 year old he won 26th S C C Falaise was then entered into the first national and he won 51st open SNFC Falaise and then doubled back into the last old bird national from SNFC Falaise and he won 195th open 3 timed from Falaise in the one year Some Pigeon. This year he has won 149th open SNFC Alencon a distance of 549 miles to his loft in Falkirk.

Dr Phil Lynch of Larbert
Vixen Phil is another fancier steeped in the annals of the SNFC like a lot of us long distance racing is in his blood and nothing in this world can change this. Phil has in his loft a top class 99 bred red hen named the ‘Vixen’ who has now won 4 times in the SNFC her performances are as follows: 150th open Sartilly a distance of 525 miles, then 85th open SNFC Claremont 520 miles, last year she won 1st section D 3rd open from SNFC Tours a distance of 628 miles and this year she has won 191st open SNFC Falaise so is now a 4 times SNFC winner. The Vixen helped Phil win the News of the World Trophy last year for the best average from Le Farte Bernard and Tours.
Photograph taken of the Vixen after her return from Falaise in 2005 you will see that she had been injured however this did not stop her from winning 191st open.

Billy Allison of Cambuslang
B Allison Billy has a 3 year old chequer cock last year he returned from Falaise 2 badly injured by a hawk then this year he won 1st club 4th west section 6th open Wakefield from an entry of 6, 800 birds. He was then entered into the inland national and he won 37th section E Newbury a distance of 327 miles recording a velocity of 1030. He was then entered for the Gold Cup race from Alencon and he won 6th section E 58th open from a distance of 541 miles velocity of 867. Then back into Falaise a distance of 513 miles and he won 21st section E 232nd open velocity 667. His total flying for the year was 2,340 miles and his sire is a Huyskin Van Riel crossed with Alex McInnes hen. So another very good pigeon as there are not many who will win 3 times in the same year flying into the West section of the SNFC well done Billy and my thanks again to Gareth Rankin for sending the photo of Billy and his winner.

Jamie Donaldson
Little Mike I have already highlighted Jamie Donaldson of Peterhead’s cock that has already won 7th open Claremont and now he has won the section winner and 4th open is a dark chequer cock now named Little Mike after Anne and Jim’s grand son who is 7 years old. Little Mike won 2nd North Section and 7th open SNFC Clermont 589 miles in 2002. In 2004 he returned on the third morning from Le Ferte Bernard badly hurt. Here he has now won 4th open what a pigeon Little Mike is a half Donaldson and a half the late Dave Rose of Aberdeen breeding in him. Reims Girl At the same time also highlighted the achievements of Reims Girl who has won 4 SNFC section prizes being 2 x 1st and 2 x 2nd north sections. Reim’s Girl has won 1st north section 52nd open SNFC Reims 620 miles in 2002, then the following year she won 1st north section 239th open SNFC Reims again 620 miles. In 2004 she was sent to the SNFC Tours race and she won 2nd north section flying 707 miles. Now in 2005 she is again 2nd north section 7th open flying 707 miles and she must rank as one of the best 600/700 milers in Great Britain.

Any Others
I think I have proved that I will give every pigeon that deserves publicity a little space in these national reports, however I don’t know the history of every pigeon that competes in the club. This is why I depend on YOU the fancier to supply me with the details of your pigeon if it has achieved the same level of accomplishments as the above mentioned pigeons. Please don’t let your pigeon down by not supplying the information just send me the details with or without a photograph and I will endeavour to highlight your pigeon’s achievements. If anyone is interested in viewing these top quality pigeons then you can do so on the SNFC Web Page Falaise Analysis.

Conclusion
I have to say that although doing the Press Officers job has been hard work it has also been a great pleasure to compile the reports and updates on the SNFC members pigeons this year. The club have been lucky in the respect that I have been off work for nearly 3 months due to an injury and albeit I cannot lift my right arm up I have been lucky in the respect that I have been able to type. The feedback from fanciers not just the membership but from outside Scotland as a whole has been immense as they have followed the SNFC results and reports as they have appeared both on the club’s web site and in the fancy press. There is one or two small items that need to be ironed out for next year but overall we have had a very good season pigeon racing wise and the happy harmony injected back into the membership is a joy to hear and behold. We must congratulate the race control team of Bobby Graham Richard Combe and Jim Hannah and our on the ball ‘weather authority man’ Steve Appleby these 4 men have done a marvellous job. We cannot forget our convoyer Colin Gray and Matthew Boyle who have proved that they are capable of looking after our treasured possessions while in transit and at the liberation site. Colin had the inevitable task of having the 3 day hold over which cannot be easy and is a duty that many of us would not take on even if offered all the money in the world as we want to wait at home on our pigeons to return. Then we have our secretary Allan McGonigal who although not in the best of health has again done a first class job in compiling the results and having them out to the web page and the members within a few days of the race being flown. The president Tom Davidson, vice presidents Malcolm Lawson and Dale Newcombe have verified and visited each of the SNFC winners to congratulate the fanciers individually which is a good personal touch that these members have appreciated. A special word to the members of the SNFC committee who assisted me by obtaining details of the winning birds or by sending in photographs of the winners, with a particular thank you to David Smith of Gretna who although not on the committee has been a wonderful help not only to me but to the SNFC committed in dealing with the south section matters. May I also thank the members who contacted me with details of their pigeons and last but not least may I thank my wife for being so considerate as I was ‘housebound’ so to speak while these races were being flown and I could not leave the phone.
