Pigeon-net faster than Broadband...
Author: RWSTitle: Pigeon-net faster than Broadband

A number of internet enthusiasts have got together to test out the speed of their ADSL broadband connection. The group released 3 racing pigeons, each carrying memory cards containing up to 1.3GB of data; a distance of 100km from home. The first pigeon managed the journey from Ohalo to Ramat Hasharon in a time of 2hrs 17mins, the other two taking slightly longer. This meant that a data transfer of the first pigeon was 166kb/s, whereas a common ADSL speed is 128kb/s. However the three birds together were capable of over 300kb/s.

The big difference in speeds that pigeons’ carried before compared to now, are thought to be because of the change from analogue (paper messages) to the new digital technology.

This story added to the announcement that pigeons provide the power behind Google – the worlds most popular search engine, shows the pigeons’ importance in modern everyday society.
