A pensioner in Australia could be fined up to $10,000 (AUD) for feeding the pigeons in her garden, Caulfield, in Melbourne.
The local council is preparing a legal case against Helena Daugvila, 87, under the nuisance provisions of the Health Act for repeatedly ignoring council notices to stop feeding the pigeons.
Mrs Daugvila, a former nurse, said she did not understand why she was not permitted to feed the pigeons. "Feeding is very kind. You have to feed them. I love the birds very much," she said, "It is unfair, terribly unfair, but I am not going to pay. Let them take it when I die,".
