A RACING pigeon from North Wales is heading for Portugal today aiming to take top honours for the country.
Frankie's Boy is in a 10-strong team competing for Great Britain in this year's Pigeon Olympia in Portugal.
His owner, Rob Fryer, 50, of Old Colwyn, is entering the two-year-old bird in the event, featuring 27 countries in the five-day competition.
A reserve bird comes from Denbigh.
Rob, member of Colwyn Bay Racing Pigeon Club, said: "I am quite excited about the Olympia. It's a big achievement for this bird to take part."
Frankie's Boy has already winged his way to five victories in 30 races. Candidates for Olympia places must have flown 1,800 miles over two years.
Frankie's Boy will go beak-to-beak with rivals from Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Poland and South Africa.
GB is entering two teams of pigeons - one of five cocks and another of five hens.
