The mett office has issued an 'Emergecy Weather Warning' for the night of 7th January into 8th January 2005, across southern Scotland, Northern England and Northern Wales.
Storm force Winds of over 100mph have been recorded and in many places 60-90mph is expected. Other areas to have severe gale force winds throughout this period.
Torrential rain will fall across the area during the night causing flood warnings on many rivers. And indeed some of Sterlingshire is currently under water. Its now reported that 5 inches of rain has fallen in northern wales, the equivalent of two months average rainfall.
Snow will effect most of Scotland as the low pressure moves out. Most severe being the north west over higher ground. However there is the risk of wintery showers throughout Scotland and Northern England. With the strength of the winds where this falls there are likely to be blizzard conditions.
The Mett Office currently advise: "Driving conditions will be extremely dangerous and the public is advised not to make any journeys unless really necessary."
Looking Further Forward
This bout of severe weather should clear by the afternoon 8th January, although strong winds will preval for some time.
Another weather system is lining up to come in Afternoon Sunday 9th January - Morning Monday 10th January. Although not as severe, strong winds and heavy rain will effect many areas.
