Dear Richard
I am afraid that the history with regards to the previous winners etc is not known, I have also tried to find out about Mr.Rufus Lewis without success. The only Lewis I could find connected with mining in the Ogmore Vale district was a Mr.W.T.Lewis of the Lewis Merthyr Coal Company, Rhondda Main Ogmore Vale 1914 to 1921.
The trophy was originally at the Fir Tree Inn Midsomer Norton Somerset from about 1935/36 to 1950/51, my father in-law was the owner of the Inn at that time. The trophy stayed with my in-laws until 1979 it was then given to me, my in-laws are now both deceased. How the trophy came to be at the Fir Tree Inn is also a mystery.
The dimensions of the cup are diameter 120 mm. overall height on plinth 300mm.
Yours Sincerely
Mr.T.Howell
