A pigeon with slight respiratory infections may not have breathing difficulties but it will not fly as fast as a bird with 100% clear airways (sacs) a bird with heavy resiratory infection will show the symptoms of infection catarrh and not fly well at all. Diagnosis - the only other condition to produse a catarrhal picture is ornithosis usually causes eye trouble aswell (conjunctivites) but mycoplasma catarrh does not. Treatment the loft should be treated by the drinking water; tylan, tiamuutin, erythromycin and specinomycin have proved useful baytrill is also proving very effective for respiratory infections and has the added advantage of having a broad spectrum of activity against respiratory bacteria e.g. haemophilus pasteurella as well as the mycoplasma.
